Cannery Lofts: Urban Living on Astoria Waterfront

Astoria Oregon Cannery Lofts

The Cannery Loft condominiums are located at the foot of 39th Street on Astoria’s waterfront, affording great views of the Columbia River and Pier 39 from most units. The complex was built in phases by Urban Pacific Builders LLC starting in 2006. The 4.5 acre site is located on 39th St. adjacent to the river walk and trolley tracks, just a short distance East of Safeway.

History
The complex includes approx. 93 units in three buildings, the first of which was completed in 2007. Due to the sluggish condo market on the Oregon Coast, sales were slow even as the additional buildings were constructed. The first sales of the lofts were in the high $300k’s, and a few of the top floor units sold for more than $400,0000. In 2009 the developer held an auction to liquidate the remaining unoccupied units, and 20 units were sold at prices ranging from $120,000′s to $160,000′s.

The Units

Each of the three buildings include mixed use commercial spaces on the ground floor. To date, only two of the commercial spaces have tenants. However I suspect that since nearly all the residential lofts are now sold that increased occupancy and traffic will lure some commercial tenants into those spaces.

The first and second floor lofts have very similar floorplans and are all about 1000 sq-ft. Each floorplan varies that figure a little, but the biggest difference between each unit is the view. The North facing units in the middle of each building have great views of Pier 39, the river walk, Washington State and of course the Columbia.  Units on the top level of each building are about 300-400 sq-ft larger due to the ‘loft’ in each unit, which adds some very functional living space as well as more natural light thanks to 18′ vaulted ceilings and additional windows. All of the units have space efficient kitchens, large walk-in closets, a gas fireplace and a private terrace.

Nearby

The Cannery Lofts are located on the far East side of Astoria, so walking to the historic downtown district is possible but not practical. Within a short walk of the lofts is the Abbey Lane business park, which includes the OBJJ fitness center. Located directly North of the Cannery Lofts is Pier 39, a revitalized cannery that now is home to the Coffee Girl and Rogue Ales Public House.
